Vehicles due for emissions testing in 2021 are now eligible for early testing for next year’s testing requirement. Upon passing an early emissions test, that result will be valid for the vehicle’s emissions testing compliance until 2023.

Early testing is beneficial for snow birds who leave for the winter and out of state college students or military personnel who return home for the holidays. Since no paperwork is required to test, motorists do not need to wait to receive a registration renewal notice from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Early testing also gives the motorist more time to address any emissions issues should the vehicle fail its test.

For more information or to find out if your vehicle is due for an emissions test call 1-888-240-1684.

ALL Clean Air Car Check locations are now open for testing and registration services.

Face coverings are required inside all emissions testing facilities. In addition, to limit potential risk, please do not come for testing with passengers or pets in your vehicle. Thank you for your cooperation.

We have implemented limited contact testing procedures and precautions to test every vehicle as efficiently and safely as possible.

There is no appointment required for registration services at Clean Air Car Check’s Partial Service License Branch.  Simply get in line during normal business hours, whether or not you need an emissions test. There is an additional convenience fee for BMV services at an emissions testing facility.

Helping Indiana eliminate harmful pollutants that effect the air we breathe

Locations & Hours

Indiana is making steady progress toward reducing emissions of pollutants from industry, motor vehicles and other activities that contribute to the formation of ground level ozone in Lake and Porter counties.

The Clean Air Car Check program identifies vehicles that emit harmful pollutants and once repaired, those vehicles’performance and fuel economy are improved, as is the air we breathe. Properly maintained vehicles also result in less contamination being released into the groundwater.
