THE GOVERNOR HAS EXTENDED BMV LICENSE PLATE EXPIRATION DATES UNTIL JUNE 30TH.  If your plate is currently expired, or will be expiring in May or June, you now have until June 30th to renew your registration without a late penalty.

The following Clean Air Car Check are open for emissions testing:

GRIFFITH – Must line up from the EAST on Gatlin Dr.

VALPARAISO – Must line up from the WEST (Sturdy Rd.) on Beech St.

When visiting for an emissions test, please remain in your vehicle with the windows up until an emissions inspector instructs you otherwise.

To limit potential risk, please do not come for testing with passengers or pets in your vehicle.

Expected Re-Open Dates:

Portage – Wednesday, May 27

Hammond – Tuesday, June 2

Your patience is appreciated as we safely transition back to full capacity. Our new limited contact testing procedures and safety precautions may slow our testing process down compared to normal, but please know that we will do our best to get every vehicle tested as efficiently and safely as possible.

Helping Indiana eliminate harmful pollutants that effect the air we breathe

Locations & Hours

Indiana is making steady progress toward reducing emissions of pollutants from industry, motor vehicles and other activities that contribute to the formation of ground level ozone in Lake and Porter counties.

The Clean Air Car Check program identifies vehicles that emit harmful pollutants and once repaired, those vehicles’performance and fuel economy are improved, as is the air we breathe. Properly maintained vehicles also result in less contamination being released into the groundwater.
