CLEAN AIR CAR CHECK STATIONS HAVE RE-OPENED with the exception of Griffith.  Our Griffith location was able to re-open briefly, but with ongoing repair work NIPSCO has cut our power again. We will re-open as soon as we are able.

Due to power restoration and storm damage issues, some stations may be limited in services offered.  Currently, if you have a vehicle that is model year 1995 and older or requires a test other than the computer-based OBD test it will need to be tested in Hammond, Portage or Valparaiso.

Due to the closures and upcoming registration deadline, we expect high volume and wait times at our locations.  If your plates are not expiring soon, you may want to wait to visit our stations to ensure that backlogged volume has leveled off.

We are diligently working to restore full services at all of our locations and will post status updates here. Please check here for the most current station operations information.

We thank you for your patience as our team works through these trying conditions. We’re in this together, Northwest Indiana!

Drive Through Registration Renewal

No appointment is necessary for registration services at Clean Air Car Check’s Partial Service License Branch.  Drive-in during regular business hours, even if you don’t need an emissions test. There is an additional convenience fee for BMV services at an emissions testing facility.

Animals are not allowed in the vehicle during the testing procedure.  If an animal is with you, you will be asked to take them and wait outside the building during the testing procedure.

Helping Indiana eliminate harmful pollutants that affect the air we breathe

Locations & Hours

Indiana is making steady progress toward reducing emissions of pollutants from industry, motor vehicles and other activities that contribute to the formation of ground level ozone in Lake and Porter counties.

The Clean Air Car Check program identifies vehicles that emit harmful pollutants and once repaired, those vehicles’performance and fuel economy are improved, as is the air we breathe. Properly maintained vehicles also result in less contamination being released into the groundwater.

AVOID THE RUSH!

Vehicles can be inspected beginning in October of the year before they are due to be tested. There is no need to wait for a notice to arrive in the mail, just bring in your vehicle prior to its registration expiration.
